One avenue to make money from your board game design is to license it to a publisher. Under this arrangement, the publisher handles the business side of producing and selling your game while you collect royalties. Sounds great, right?
Great, perhaps, but not easy.
The games market is a competitive space, and if you’re not familiar with the industry then your odds for success aren’t good. Still, getting yourself familiar with the process will help immensely, as will finding a good match between your game and a publisher.
To help you get started, I’ve created a Squidoo lens for beginners seeking to license their board game to publishers. Included is a list of publishers with known submission guidelines for outside inventors. By no means do I consider the list complete — if you’d like to point me to any links I’ve missed, please submit them in the comments below.
